Igor Strelkov SITREPs for 03.06.204

Those updates are officially released by the rebel commander Igor Strelkov, in Slaviansk. I do not endorse his views, but he’s obviously an insider resource on the situation in Ukraine. As such I will continue translating and reposting them.

Strelkov Update,  June 03, 2014

(Summer56 is reposting this from an online forum, whose moderators have requested that direct links to the forum not be posted. Thus I am linking to Summer56’s reposts instead.)

The situation on the northern area of the front is dire. After a brief battle, the opponent, equipped with full-spectrum superiority, captured Krasny Liman. The militia took heavy casualties. Now the National Guard is in the town, tormenting the local population. The fall of Liman is a heavy blow to Slaviansk itself. We cannot aid its tiny garrison, as we ourselves are under assault.

From 05:00 the opponent has been ferociously bombing and shelling Semenovka, using dozens of various cannon, CAS aircraft, and helicopters. The shelling continues even now. We have casualties which have already been published: 7 dead, 10 wounded.

After this, the opponent attacked Semenovka from the Seleznyovka direction, using tanks and National Guard infantry on APCs. After prolonged, heavy combat they were forced to reatreat, having lost 2 BTRs and an armored Hummer, as well as a T-64 tank. Sadly, the vehicles remained in enemy territory and were evacuated. Small arms fire damaged a Mi-24 and forced it into an emergency landing. (Again, it is being rapidly repaired – we cannot count it as destroyed, at best it is temporarily out of action). The opponent’s personnel casualties are unknown. Given the opponent’s enormous superiority in all weapons, I see this battle as a true act of heroism by our militiamen. It is a pity they need to carry out these deeds using anti-tank rifles from the Great Patriotic War, saving every cartridge. Soon, if things continue as they are, these cartridges will run out as well – as will we. But we will still defend Slaviansk to the end – even if nothing and nobody helps us at all!

Our recon units in the area of KRasny Liman, having sustained serious losses from air-to-ground fire, managed to destroy two automobiles and a ZU-23-2 from ambush.

The Krasny Liman company reported destroying a SU-25. I can neither confirm nor disprove these news so far.

On the Western approaches to Slaviansk, our Reconnaissance-Sabotage Team destroyed one of the opponent’s BMPs.

At any rate, the opponent is constantly using CAS planes against us in groups of 2-3 (switching the teams – they come from different airfields) and combat helicopters in groups of 6-7.

Columns of artillery, infantry, and armor are now crawling towards Slaviansk from literally every direction. A ratio of 10-1 is now a happy past. A battalion of Uragans is on its way here, and a Grad launcher has fired on Semenovka today. The amount of SP and regular howitzers in 122mm and greater has long passed 50, and I do not count the mortars at all. The opponent’s goal is to close the ring around Slaviansk once and for all.

Strelkov Appeal, 03.06.2014

The men who fell today in militia service (all as one – local, Donezk men) did not wish to be heroes. Dead heroes. And they might have avoided this if we had enough weapons and supplies, instructors and specialists, and at least elementary logistics.

I have long kept quiet regarding “Russian aid”. Because I understand everything – the nuances of “big politics”, in which Slaviansk is a tiny stain on the tablecloth of history, and the great risks that Russia must take to give us armed assistance, and a mass of other facts.

I DON’T UNDERSTAND ONE THING: WHY WAS IT POSSIBLE TO RISK EVERYTHING IN RUSHING TO THE AID OF SEVERAL DOZENS OF THOUSANDS OF OSSETIAN-KUDARS – WHOM i GREATLY RESPECT – BUT IN THE SAME TIME WE SEE MONTHS OF DELAYS WITH URGENT HELP FOR RUSSIANS??? RUSSIANS WHICH NUMBER IN THE MILLIONS HERE!!!

Do they really think in Moscow that several hundreds of haphazardly armed Russian volunteers is enough? I’d like to see at least one of the bureaucrats that oversee the situation in South-East Ukraine (These exist) in the trenches of Semenovka now!

Right now in Krasny Liman they are executing men in the streets. In Zeleny Klin they at best drive off with you in an unknown direction, and at worst – shoot anyone who doesn’t have local registration! And our militia have already all left! Is this not enough for military intervention??? How many more corpses do they need to make a decision? Or should I abandon the hard defensive, and instead engage in rescue efforts? Mass evacuation? My modest resources will not allow even this.

That is all. Judging by the sounds of gunfire, the attack has begun again.

You can spread this around. We have nothing left to lose already.
